Aromatherapy Essential Oil: A Treat for Your Senses

One of the best ways to understand exactly how and why aromatherapy works is to really understand what it’s origins are. We all see the bath and body related shops at the local mall. And when looking through the various oils, candles, and other scented items, we rarely focus on the ingredients. Sure, these products smell good, but what is really exciting is what the various smells - produced by the essential oils inside - actually do to benefit you and your senses.

One of the best things about aromatherapy and what it does for you is the way it can make you feel as though you are transported from one place to another. It is the essential oils that are the heart of all true aromatherapy products. So that you can learn more about the products that you are spraying and massaging into your skin, take a look at the basic facts about aromatherapy essential oils:

The Essence of Essential Oils

Essential oils come from the fragrant essence of plants. The actual oil is obtained by steam distillation, extraction or mechanical removal from the plant. Depending on the oil, the plant roots, buds, leaves, or flower petals may be used. These same essential oils have been used since ancient times in aromatherapy candles, cooking flavorings, incense, spiritual ceremonies, and natural healing.

Common aromatherapy plants are juniper, sage and rosemary. One thing to note is that just because aromatherapy essential oils come from lovely plants, that does not mean that they are impotent. Too much of certain essential oils can actually be hazardous to your health, so you must be mindful and knowledgeable about the amount used.

What Aromatherapy Essential Oils Do

There are many uses for aromatherapy essential oils. There are therapeutic uses, emotional uses, physical uses, and spiritual uses. Aromatherapy essential oils are also very useful in meditation practices. In addition to these uses, there are also various aromatherapy essential oils that relieve sore muscles and stressful moods.

Whatever the situation, there is probably an aromatherapy essential oil to help and heal. When rubbed on the skin, these potent oils are able to find their way into the bloodstream and create what seems like magic.

Aromatherapy Products

You can find aromatherapy essential oils in just about any retail outlet that specializes in natural products. Another way to get the full benefit of these products are by going to a certified massage therapist that uses aromatic essential oils in their practice. You can even convince your significant other to give you a relaxing massage after a particularly hard day and receive many of the same benefits of a professional massage session for a lot less money.

The bottom line is that essential oils are really the foundation of aromatherapy. Being natural and pure, they can really make a difference during a stressful day or week. It’s great to know that even through the hustle and bustle of life and living, there is a true, unadulterated source for healing.
